A North-meets-South jewellery collaboration
A recent design project, pairing Cape Town’s Pichulik and Copenhagen’s By Malene Birger, has our interest piqued.
Perfectly timed for last month’s International Women’s Day, this transcontinental collaboration between Cape Town-based jewellery designer Katherine-Mary Pichulik and Malene Birger has certainly wowed fans. The collection sold out within a week of launching! But, fear not, despite the limited-edition run, stocks have recently been replenished and are ready to be shopped once again.
The two pieces in the collection, a belt and pair of earrings, are handcrafted from organic materials right here on South African soil by local talent. Both the materials and manufacturing process speak to the ethical and sustainable orientation of those involved – with By Malene Birger also donating a portion of proceeds to the Women for Women International non-profit. Maja Dixdotter, Head of Design at By Malene Birger, adds:
For this collaboration, Katherine-Mary Pichulik and I wanted an organic feel. It was important also that the pieces fit seamlessly into our woman’s wardrobe, either as an earthy element added to an otherwise clean look, or to tie in a silhouette.
Those familiar with Pichulik’s designs will recognise her signature knotted rope, combined with stone and metal. The belts are available in two colourways: black and sand, and the earrings in black and rust.
Readers can shop the collection on the By Malene Biger website, with orders being fulfilled locally.
