The cool Curación Collection
We explore an accessible, high-end collection from a dynamic Cape Town creative duo.
Bold. That’s the only way to describe the newly-formed collaborative design pairing of Adrian Beukes and Dylan Thomaz. Whilst celebrated individually, these two have come together as a superstar team.
With industries forced to re-think the way they operate during Covid lockdowns (and thanks also to the unending upheaval in overseas shipping), Adrian and Dylan took a leap of faith. Their new retail offering will now be entirely made right here in South Africa.
Collaboration with talented local artisans is a given for these seasoned designers. Thus the Curación Collection features the talents of a group of creators – currently made up of a ceramicist, a painter and a knitter. All are dedicated to their respective crafts, with a shared desire to create beautiful, head-over-heels-in-love pieces. We’re certainly besotted with the Casey occasional chair and its contemporary form and soft edges.
The essence of this collection is a distinct dedication to a unique (yet also strangely recognisable) aesthetic that is immediately sculptural. The work showcases a variety of materials and textures (including tactile fabrics in bouclés and corduroys) in a timeless blend.
Making good design accessible is also a driving force for this duo. They’ve made a point of unveiling their designs in countrywide pop-ups and other expertly curated experiential spaces – so keep your eyes on their social media platforms for more.
This is local design worth applauding.
