Wild Orchard, Amanda-Jayne
Hand-crafted in Cape Town, Amanda-Jayne candles have, for close on a decade, been filling our homes with lingering scents inspired by nature. The boutique fragrance brand’s newest scent, Wild Orchard, brings to life (and your living room) the experience of walking through a citrus orchard when its buds are in bloom.
The notes: Bergamot, lemon verbena, patchouli, lavender.
What you can expect: A crisp and rejuvenating fragrance with zesty appeal, softened by hints of patchouli and calming lavender. Amanda-Jayne candles are made from natural soy wax, with twin wicks in the double-wick candle made from eco cotton for an even burn.

Somertuin, Babylonstoren
Our go-to farm for all things fabulous, Babylonstoren’s Somertuin scent collection was not only the perfect addition to an assortment of farm-inspired fragrances that include, Heuningbos, Bergbries, Smeulende Fynbos and Waterblommetjie, but it’s been an enduring favourite of ours since Somertuin’s room spray launched two years ago. As inspiring as a summer walk through Babylonstoren’s gardens can be, so too were the wafting scents of the farm’s summer gardens inspirational to the scent makers hard at work in the Scented Room.
The notes: Sage, eucalyptus, cedarwood.
What you can expect: A delicate fragrance that captures the essence of time spent in an early South African summer garden. Gentle on the olfactory senses, the Somertuin scent is woody and sweet, and great for all rooms. FROM THE BUSHVELD
Marula Bloom, Slowveld
The Marula tree has long been celebrated in Southern Africa for its diverse benefits, which include the bark’s antihistamine and antimalarial properties, its oils extremely rich in vitamin C and often used in cosmetics, and digestive health benefits. Avid safari fans recount stories of watching baboons, giraffes, impala and warthogs eating Marula fruit, and patiently waiting for opportunities to capture the iconic image of an elephant reaching for fruit from the tree. Handcrafted in the African bushveld, Slowveld’s Marula Bloom candles celebrate the extent to which the Marula tree supports African ecosystems, and are plant-based, cruelty-free and vegan.
The notes: Marula.
What you can expect: A warm, sweet and slightly nutty scent, infused with subtle fruity notes and a creamy – almost buttery – undertone, that instantly brings to mind summer in the bushveld. Made from natural soy wax, the candles have eco-friendly wood wicks.

FROM THE VINEYARD
Unwined Sauvignon Blanc, Olive and Grape
Olive And Grape, you had us at Sauvignon blanc! Doubly so when we discovered the Unwined Sauvignon Blanc candle. Handcrafted in the Cape Winelands, the paraffin-wax candle is contained within recycled wine bottles, etched with leafy patterns. Online retailer Olive and Grape is all about supporting South African farmers, from those producing boutique wines to those harvesting olives. Their online store celebrates lesser-known, family-owned businesses, their products unavailable in major retailers. We love that Olive and Grape is a treasure trove of wine-related goodies.
The notes: Pear, passionfruit, litchi.
What you can expect: A light, vibrant and zesty fragrance that’s as good as a walk through a vineyard on a warm and sunny day. Let the Unwined Sauvignon Blanc scent fill your home, and you’ll be longing for languid alfresco lunches with vineyards as your view.
